Many people are afraid of the dental office and everything associated with it. If you are one of these people, our Family Dentistry of Rockwall team has some good news for you! Many dental offices in the world today proudly provide dental sedation, which is a beneficial product that can help you finally relax in the dental chair. Generally, there are three different types of sedatives that are commonly used, and those three sedatives are:
-Oral sedation: Oral sedation comes in the form of a pill. This is one of the easiest sedatives to use because the only thing you need to do is swallow the pill about an hour prior to your dental appointment. By the time you get to our office, you will feel drowsy and groggy. Depending on the dose given to you, you may even fall asleep during your treatment.
-Nitrous oxide sedation: Nitrous oxide is a light, flavored gas that you will inhale through the nostrils. When you come in for your appointment, your dentist will place a small mask over your nose and will ask you to deeply inhale for a few minutes. As time passes by, you will feel tingly and light headed. The effects will only last until the mask is taken off your nose.
-IV sedation: IV sedation is a stronger sedative that can send you into a deep sleep. This sedative is generally used when you need extensive dental treatment, like oral surgery. The sedative will enter your veins through an IV and will be completely controlled by your dentist. You will fall asleep before your treatment begins and then you will wake up once you appointment is over.
Now, even though these three are the most commonly used dental sedatives in Rockwall, Texas, your dentist, Dr. Lisa K. Attaway, may not offer all of them at our office. So, if you would like to know which sedatives we offer, please call 972-772-3900 and ask a member of our dental team. We are more than happy to tell you!
